I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s in North Carolina went to college at Virginia Tech, and now live in the Baltimore/Washington Metro Area sprawl of central Maryland. I am basically the Bubba Gump Shrimp of Geeks. I’m a Music Geek, a Movie Geek, a TV Geek, and a Sports Geek. A Band Geek, a Cooking Geek, and a Science Geek.
I’ve played Baseball, Basketball, Golf, Ultimate Frisbee, Disc Golf, Fencing, and Running to varying degrees of competitiveness. I’l watch any sport any time, but I particularly love College Basketball (Tar Heels), College Football (Hokies), Major League Baseball (Orioles), NHL Hockey (Capitals), International Rugby (Scotland), Golf, and the Olympics.
I Play Violin, Mandolin, Clarinet, and Saxophone, I dabble in Bass Guitar, and i’m trying to teach myself Banjo. There is literally no kind of music that i dislike. Of course, like anything, there are good and bad examples of every genre, but I have favorites in all genres from Classical to Rap, Country to Jazz, Oldies, Hard Rock, Metal, Disco, Soul, Funk, New Wave, Pop, Alternative, you name it. The Beatles are unquestionably my favorite though and if that’s the only music i could listen to for the rest of my life, i’d be find with that. George is the best Beatle by the way.
I worked at an Independent movie theater all through high school and i saw pretty much every movie that came out between 1997 and 2000 as a result. I’m totally nuts for Star Wars, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Marvel, Dinosaurs, Monster Movies, Hong Kong action, and Back to the Future, and I know every line of Dialogue in the Princess Bride by heart. I will gobble up anything by the Coen Brothers, Jean Pierre Jeunet, Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Christopher Guest
My favorite TV show by a wide margin is Mythbusters and i could re-watch the whole series at the drop of a hat. I love sketch comedy, high quality sitcoms, science TV, Cooking shows (especially Alton Brown) and Nature Documentaries. I love most of the Star Trek iterations, and Picard is the best captain and i will fight you about that.
As for books, like everything else, i enjoy a wide variety, though i tend to gravitate towards “Door-Stopper” Fantasy and Young Adult Fantasy. but i also like classic Sci-Fi, Mythology, and Crime Fiction. Nothing beats Tolkien though in my book.
