Marvel Madness: Ultron Region – Round 2

There have been a few more movies and of course the mini-series that have come out while I’ve been neglecting my duties here, but I’m determined to finish what I started. Round 2 – Ultron Region results. Let’s Go!

The Ultron Region:

1 vs 9 Again, what we have here is a match-up between 2 movies with great character development in a kind of weak narrative. Age of Ultron introduces Wanda Maximoff and Vision while Thor introduces Loki (and the entire Norse Pantheon of course) as well as Hawkeye, Jane, and Darcy. Looking back at these movies from the MCU phase 4 perspective, where would it be without these characters?! Loki and WandVision have definitely been the best of Phase 4 so far and these two movies paved the way for them. Overall, i think we have to hand this one to Age of Ultron because not only did it introduce a wealth of great characters, but it also set up Captain America: Civil War, as well as one of the greatest moments in Avengers: Endgame when everyone tries to lift Mjolnir at the Avengers party.

4 vs 5 X-Men: First Class is fine, it has some good performances and was a good attempt at resetting the flagging X-Men franchise, but Thor: Ragnarok is just so good. I’ll get into more detail about how much I love this movie and why as we continue through the rounds, but for now, suffice it to say that the answer is “a lot.”

3 vs 11 11 seed Cinderella keeps on rolling here! Captain America is a great story, with great acting and great characters. We need more Peggy Carter! Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 is just too inconsistent to hold off Cap’s onslaught.

2 vs 7 As I stated previously, Black Panther is a Marvel Movie of the highest quality, it’s main weakness, the intimate stakes of the central conflict, may drag it down some day, but it is not this day! Ant-Man and The Wasp is a nice little movie, but this is where it’s run ends.
